Elementary Physical Education Highlights
Getting to Know Each other & Large Group Team Building Games
- Hospital Tag, Red Light Green Light, Capture the Chickens and other team games
Locomotor Movements and Locomotor Games and Movement Concepts
- Performing running, hopping, skipping, crossover & side stepping, galloping & sashaying
- Understand & Apply Movements in all directions with others, in a routine or while using an object
Object Manipulation & Control Skills
- Football Pass and Catch, Punt and Run, football passing games, handoff tag, and running plays
- Soccerball Kick and Punt, Dribble, Throw and Catch and games
- Ball & Beanbag Catching and Throwing Overhand & Underhand Skills for Primary grades
Fitness Gram Physical Fitness Testing
- Mile run/walk, 2 minute run, and Fitness Gram PACER running laps, curl-up, push up tests
- Understanding Fitness Scores and Comparing National Scores to Personal Test Scores, upper grades
Floor Hockey
- Performs controlled stick handling while dribbling, passing & shooting,
- Show Royal Pride and cooperate & be a good sport in a floor hockey tournament
Rhythmic Movement
- Practice movements to music individually, with partners in a circle, line or square formation. Respecting others and social skills are emphasized.
- Perform fitness exercises to the beat of the music, or with an exercise video
- Create and practice a footwork routine with small groups, applying movement concepts through rhythmic steps.
Gymnastics Static & Dynamic Balance and Apparatus Movements
- Jumps, Weight Transfers, Balances, Flexibility Stretching and Maneuvers on Tumbling Mats
- Weight Transfer Maneuvers on the following apparatuses: Floor, Balance Beam, Uneven Bars, Stall or Parallel Bars, Vaulting Horse
- Calming "animal" poses and deep breathing to relaxing music grades K and 1
Basketball & Volleyball Team Sports
- Practice controlled ball handling skills, and perform sport specific movements like dribbling, passing and shooting during simple games like 21, Horse, and Around the World, etc.

2017 National Standards for Physical Education, developed by SHAPE America and approved by the Minnesota Department of Education.
WM Elementary Physical Education Curriculum mirrors the following National Physical Education Standards, and are imbedded in each of the standards based report cards.
Physical activity is critical to the development and maintenance of good health.
