National Physical Education Standards (K-12)
2017 National Standards for Physical Education, developed by SHAPE America and approved by the Minnesota Department of Education. WM Elementary Physical Education Curriculum mirrors the following National Physical Education Standards, and are imbedded in each of the standards based report cards. Physical activity is critical to the development and maintenance of good health. The goal of physical education is to develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity.
A physically educated person: Application. The students will meet the physical education standards...... Standard: Motor Skills. The student will demonstrate competency a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.
Standard: Movement and Performance. The student will apply knowledge of movement concepts, principles, & strategies, and tactics related to movement and performance.
Standard: Physical activity and fitness. The student will demonstrate the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and physical fitness.
