Minnesota Service Cooperatives’ Knowledge Bowl competitions are interdisciplinary academic contests designed for students in grades 7-12. During the contest, teams of students compete in written and oral rounds by answering questions related to all areas of learning typical of secondary education programs. Questions test students’ recall, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
Currently over 800 teams from 290 Minnesota school districts participate in senior high knowledge bowl competitions. At the end of the season, teams compete in sub-region and region tournaments with a total of 48 teams advancing to the State Knowledge Bowl meet. Watertown Mayer offers this opportunity currently only at our high school level but could be open to 7-8 grade students in the future with enough interest.
Current COVID precautions have students participating virtually. Teams gather at their own schools and compete against teams from other schools via DISCORD. This has been a great solution to host competitions while maintaining social distancing.
