Health Services

The Watertown-Mayer School District follows the recommended hearing & vision screenings per the schedule below. If you have concerns about your student's hearing or vision, please contact the building nurse and your student will be screened individually. 

If you do not want your student to go through the recommended screening process, please notify the building nurse. 

Students will be screened in the following grades:

• Vision: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9
• Hearing: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9

Screenings are done throughout the year for elementary and middle school students and during health class for the 9th graders. 

If a student does not pass the initial screening, a re-screen will be performed by the building nurse. If the student fails the re-screen, a referral notice will be sent to the parent/guardian.

If you are interested in being a volunteer to help with the screening process, please contact your student's school nurse.

The following procedures need to be followed if your child will be taking any medication during the school day:

• The school does not supply any medication to students (this includes Tylenol, Advil and Tums).
• Transportation of medication to/from school should be done by the parent/guardian. If this is not possible, students need to bring the medication to the health office before school begins in the morning. Parents should also call to alert the nurse that the medication is coming with the student.
• All medications (prescription and over-the-counter) must be brought to the health office in the original labeled bottle.
• Students are not allowed to self-carry medications with the exception of emergency medications (i.e., inhaler, Epi-pen, etc.). If a student will be carrying an emergency medication, prior authorization is required from the student's parent/guardian, healthcare provider, and school nurse.
• Prescription medications need to have a Medication Authorization Form filled out and signed by both a parent/guardian and healthcare provider.
• Over-the-counter medications need to have a Medication Authorization Form filled out and signed by a parent/guardian.
• Medication Authorization Forms must be completed annually and/or when a change in dosage occurs.

If your student needs to take medication during the school day, please fill out the Medication Authorization Form and return to the health office.
