Student Planners Ø Teachers will provide assignments in written form on the chalkboard at the beginning of each class period.
Ø Teachers will allow a short period of time for students to copy this information into their student planners on a daily basis.
Ø Students have the responsibility to make sure this information is recorded daily.
Ø Parents have the responsibility to check planners as frequently as they deem necessary; for students that are having difficulty following through on daily work, we suggest daily checks by the parents or guardians.
Ø Students will circle and star individual assignments that were not completed during the class period so parents can readily see what is homework; some notations may be written at times by the teacher for some individuals to ensure clear communication with the parent.
Homework Ø It is the 6th grade policy that all homework must be in on the day it is due.
Ø Any unfinished homework will be completed during activity period or after school on that day for partial credit.
Ø Failure to complete assignments on the day they are due will result in a zero for that particular assignment.
Ø If work must be completed after the school day, the parent will be notified by the student or a 6th grade staff member.
Ø Providing transportation will be the parent’s responsibility.
Ø We do understand that emergency situations may occur and please encourage students to discuss these with us.
Ø We hope to instill responsibility within our students by holding them accountable and keeping them from falling behind while preparing them for future educational endeavors.

Thoughts we’d like to share: Don’t get focused on grades alone. Every grade means something different to each individual! The best competition is against oneself. Success is not permanent. The same is true of failure.
Student Planners Each eighth grade student will be expected to use the middle school student planner to record all assignments. Planners will be checked for parent signatures each Monday (or the first school day of the week). Individual instructors will check planners randomly for completeness each week.
Homework Each eighth grade student is expected to do some schoolwork each night. Most of the time there will be specific assignments in the various classes. Sometimes, however, the homework will take the form of ongoing assignments that do not appear in the daily section of the planner such as independent reading, math problems of the week, or long-term projects. Due dates for these types of assignments should be indicated on the monthly calendar in the planner. “I don’t have any homework” is rarely a true statement for the eighth grade student.
Grading All eighth grade core teachers have adopted the grading scale below. 90 % = A- 80 % = B- 70 % = C- 60 % = D-
Failing grades are not acceptable, and we will make every effort to help students who are having difficulty in a particular area.
